Part 6 - Referees

Referees should meet the following criteria:

  • A person who knows you in a work context
  • A person who has known you for at least two years
  • A professional

Part 7 - Tailoring Resumes

It's vital that you read the job advertisement or position description and then tailor your resume / application accordingly;

  • Analyse exactly what the employer is looking for
  • Analyse your strengths and weaknesses and
  • Try to match your strengths to the ones the employer requires

Handy hints:

  • Make sure the resume supports the advertised position criteria
  • Be specific to the advertisement - it’s the only thing you can sell yourself on at this stage
  • Address issues raised in the advertisement by highlighting areas from your work experience and attitude that match the position and the company.
